About Me

I’m Philippa Gaughan, a Brooklyn-based figurative painter and illustrator. My work begins with found analog photography, which I reinterpret through paint to bring forgotten scenes and overlooked moments back to life. I work primarily in oil, gouache, and digital media, using color planes and an alla prima approach to capture the immediacy and essence of each subject.

I hold a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design (2021) and my illustration work has been published in Slate Magazine for their “80 Over 80” feature. My practice is driven by a love of storytelling and the cinematic quality of everyday life, blending fine art traditions with a contemporary lens.
